FCO Altea Hills 3-2 Toldos Marina Baixa

Three goals, three points, third place! FC Oranje moved into the promotion places last week with a three goal haul against fellow promotion chasers Toldos Marina Baixa. A double from Carsten Monk and a great solo goal from Robbie Dekker secured the points at the Albir Arena. Oranje welcomed back central defender Kris Taft and Carsten Monk who were both missing from last weeks defeat at Caf Galera, unfortunately they were without midfielder Craig Tilley (groin strain) and left back Lucas Barker was away in England.

TEAM: Prins, Wilkinson, Juul, Taft, Ossawy, van Beek, Monk, Booker, Harrison, Dekker, Sinbad.

The game started off at a good pace with both teams determined not to let the 12 o’clock Sunday morning kick off and the bare heat of the day get to them. Oranjes midfielder Lee Booker was creating some good chances for the forwards and with Sinbad tricking his way into the box he created the chance for leading scorer Robbie Dekker to apply the finishing touch, coolly slotting it past the advancing keeper 1-0. It was looking good for Oranje until a defensive error let the away side draw level, right back Danny Wilkinson clearing the ball from a corner only for it to drop to a Toldos player who tied the game at 1-1. After controlling the majority of the game FC Oranje were determined not to lose this one and pressed the game forward, left winger Daniel Harrison was doing his best to jink his way past the strong defenders of Toldos, and was eventually awarded a free kick for his efforts on the 25 yeard line. With free kick specialist Craig Tilley watching on the sidelines, Carston Monk hit a thunderbolt into the top corner, the goalkeeper only being able to watch the ball fly past and into the back of the net 2-1. FC Oranje now had to take control of the game, Lee Booker was winning every ball in midfield covering a lot of ground to cut out any balls through the middle also still creating chances for the two forwards, while Carsten Monk was holding the midfield together well. But, yet again from another corner, slack defending and poor marking gifted the visitors there second goal, a looping ball to the back post and an unmarked Toldos player took his chance well to tie the game for the second time 2-2 and half time. After an inspirational team talk from Coach Shawn Kinnear FC Oranje came back out onto the field to finish off their opponents. Lee Booker and Carsten Monk were playing some lovely two touch football in the middle of the park spreading the play well to speedy right winger Dennis van beek who floated in a wonderful ball to Monk who finished well fron 18 yards to make it 3-2 to Oranje’s. After defending poorly in the first half FC Oranje made hard work of the second half, letting the Toldos attackers behind the defensive wall, but with the experience of Kris Taft and the pace and energy of Norwegian Lars Ossawy any chance the away team carved out was stopped before keeper Andy had the opportunity to make the save. FC Oranje now lie in third place, a point clear of fourth, promotion is in their own hands, Injured Craig Tilley said after the game ‘The boys know what they have to do, if we win our remaining games we go up, they didn’t play their best football today but got the result we needed’ Man of the Match: Lee Booker for his non stop battling.
