The Final Countdown
FC Oranje 3 Aluma 0
FC Oranje kept their promotion hopes alive last week thanks to a
stunning double from super sub Sjaak Vloet.
With 4th placed Hermanos Jerez winning in the early kick off of
the day nothing but a win would do for the boys in orange. After
a poor start to the season FC Oranje have finished the season
off superbly only having two defeats in the last 10 games, they
were hoping to build on that record this week. Experienced
goalkeeper Andy Prinns pulled out of the match two hours before
kick off with a back injury, they were also without the
influential Dennis Van Beek who was suspended alongside work
horse Isak Juul and Daniel Harrison.
Team: Rich, Wilkinson, Barker, Taft, Ossawy, Stephan, Monk,
Tilley, Booker, Sinbad, Dekker.
The bare heat of the day would not be a problem this week with
the game kicking off at 19.00. Lee Booker was once again making
himself known to the opponents with some strong tackling and
fierce running alongside him was midfield maestro Craig Tilley
playing just in front of the defence creating some great
opportunities for the forwards. The first 20 minutes was all
Oranje, Robbie Dekker was doing his best to get into dangerous
positions, and on 25 minutes made his mark. A defense splitting
pass from Lee Booker gave Dekker the chance and he took it well
chipping the keeper, 1-0. After more attacks the opposition
defense stood strong and was lucky to go into the break only 1-0
down. The second half started positively with FC Oranje again
bombarding Aluma with shots coming from all over the park. Lucas
Barker tried his luck from 50 yards striking the post in what
was a sensational shot. On 55 minutes Coach Shawn made his first
change of the game, after Lee Booker was sent off for receiving
his second yellow card, Sjaak Vloet came onto the field
replacing Robbie Dekker. It didn’t take Vloet long to make his
mark on the game. On the 60 minute mark he found himself free in
the 6 yard box and after a superb pass from Monk Vloet made it
2-0. More madness was still to come in this match, the card
happy ref decided to send Craig Tilley off after a nothing
tackle, Tilley was clearly disappointed and now misses the final
game of the season on Saturday afternoon. FC Oranje were now
looking to finish this game off, but, the game took another
turn. After a fantastic tackle where he clearly played the ball
Sipan Sinbad was given his marching orders. The game was finally
decided when Vloet netted for the second time to put the game
beyond Aluma. The defense today showed why they have only
conceded 5 goals in the last 10 games after a ‘leaky’ start to
the season, experienced central defender Kris Taft has closed up
any holes and along with Ossawy, Barker and Wilkinson they
really are one of the best defenses in the league. Man of the
match - Carsten Monk
